The Mets were founded in 1962 to fill the void left when the Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Giants abandoned New York for California. The franchise literally wears this history on its sleeve: their iconic team colors combine Dodger Blue and Giants Orange to unite the city's old National League faithful.
